Budget Response
Conservative Way Forward (CWF), the campaign for traditional conservative principles of liberty, security and free-market democracy, has today responded to the Budget presented by Chancellor George Osborne.
Mark Allatt, General Secretary of Conservative Way Forward, said:
It is great news that the Chancellor has simplified the tax system by scrapping the pretence that National Insurance is anything other than Income Tax by another name. Simplifying taxes makes them easier to pay, harder to evade and cheaper to administrate – and it makes the taxman be a little more honest about how much he takes. This must only be the start, there are plenty more cons and complexities to iron out.
Lower taxes are the best way to make the economy grow, but they are also morally right. Britain should become a place where work has a reward, not a punishment in the form of crushing tax rates. Raising the income tax threshold is good economics, and it's also humane.
The Chancellor has given motorists some welcome breathing space, but fuel duty must continue to fall further in future. Cars are quite literally the motor of the economy, and cutting fuel duty will help keep Britain moving.
Despite all the controversy over public spending, the State continues to be bloated and burdensome. Last year's Emergency Budget started to rein public spending in, but we need to keep rooting out waste and inefficiency. Reducing waste, boosting trade and encouraging success is the only way to rebuild Britain.
